The 2010 GREIT Conference - Taxation and Human Rights in Europe and the World
Badia Fiesolana (Florence), Italy
European University Institute 16 and 17 September 2010
The 2010 GREIT Conference about “Taxation and Human Rights in Europe and the World” will be held on 16 and 17 September 2010 at the premises of the European University Institute in Fiesole, i.e. in the beautiful outskirts of Florence, Italy. The 2010 GREIT conference will deal with issues surrounding the impact of the Lisbon Treaty on EU law and explore the possible development of human rights in the field of taxation in the era of global law.
This project follows up on the research initiatives that GREIT has carried out over the past few years since its establishment in Lund in 2006 and that have so far yielded three books by IBFD Publications. After focusing on the need for an homogeneous tax law, pleading for a tax acte clair doctrine and analysing the problems of legal remedies in European tax law, the conference held last year in Amsterdam put the emphasis on traditional and alternative routes to European tax integration. The era of globalisation and the shift to the TFEU are in our view important factors to suggest that the traditional separation of spheres between taxation and human rights should be revisited.
Speakers will include: P. Pistone, M. Maduro, G. Kofler, C. Brokelind, A.P. Dourado, D. Weber, L. Azoulai, S. Besson, P. Baker, D. Sarmiento, P. Wattel, F. Vanistendael, J. Wouters, D. Gutmann, L.S. Rossi, R. Lyal, H. Micklitz, M. Scheinin, S. Van Thiel, R. Cordeiro Guerra.
